Recent Campaign Developments

The Department of Education and Skills has announced that two new primary schools will open in Ballinteer and in Stepaside in September 2012. This is very exciting news for our campaign.

Martin O’Flaherty, speaking on behalf of the South Dublin Educate Together Action Group said: “The South Dublin Educate Together Start-up group are both excited and encouraged by the recent announcement by the Department of Education and Skills of the opening of two new primary schools in the Ballinteer/Stepaside areas in 2012. Our group was set up to meet the demand from local parents, who believe we have the right to choose the type of education we would like for our children. This recent announcement serves as a major boost for our group. Since our campaign started a year ago our pre-enrolment list has grown to 220 children and is steadily increasing with more and more local parents proactively expressing their wish for an Educate Together school in our area”

The Department of Education and Skills will now accept applications from potential patrons for these schools. These applications will address a number of criteria, such as parental demand for each school type. The applications will be considered by the Department and by the New Schools Establishment Group, who will advise the Minister.

Time to pre-enrol your child for our proposed school today.

Pre-enrolment Event a Resounding Success!

After a superb turnout from local parents at our pre-enrolment event on Saturday 25th September, we now have 180 children pre-enroled for our proposed school, and counting, as postal forms continue to arrive to JulieAnne, our super-efficient Pre-enrolment Officer. We are all delighted that so many parents have the same wishes for their children's education as we do and the same vision for a society that respects children of all social, cultural and religious backgrounds equally. We would like to thank the local representatives who dropped in to say hello including Alan Shatter TD, Olivia Mitchell TD, and an Leas-Chathaoirleach Cllr. Neale Richmond. See

our Words of Support page for all the messages of support we have received from local representatives.

We will be contacting all parents who pre-enroled their children shortly. Educate Together are already in contact with the Department of Education about schools they hope to open in September 2011 including ours. Join our Facebook page www.facebook.com/SouthDublinET or subscribe to our newsletter on our homepage at www.SouthDublinET.com to stay up to date with the campaign.

Children in the playroom of the Dundrum Methodist Church while their parents filled out forms!

I hope all the parents who started queuing at 7am have recovered from the chill in their bones - it was a cold morning and a long wait for the doors to open at 9.30am. For any parents who did not make the event but would like to pre-enrol their child, visit our PRE-ENROL page and follow the instructions. If you have any questions about pre-enrolment, please contact JulieAnne who would be happy to help at enrol@SouthDublinET.com or 089 4312501.

You can view pics from the day at http://southdublinet.com/PreEnrolmentGallery.aspx Thanks to Mark Woods for all the lovely photos. Thanks also to Catherine from the Dundrum Gazette who arrived to take photos on the day - we hope to see one in Thursday's edition of the Dundrum Gazette later this week.

Pre-enrolment Event

We are delighted to announce the date of our pre-enrolment event - Saturday 25th September. The event takes place at Dundrum Methodist Hall in Ballinteer. Please visit our Events section for directions. Doors will open promptly at 9.30am. This event is important because it is the first time that any of us can put our child or children's names on the pre-enrolment list. Places in the school, once we get permission to open, are assigned on the basis of this list. So put a reminder in your phone and see you there! If you would like to help at the event, please email us at info@SouthDublinET.com

Marlay Park Launch

A big thank you to all the parents, and of course the beautiful children and bouncing babies, who came to Marlay Park last Saturday, 7th August to officially launch our campaign. We would also like to thank the photographers, especially Dave, who gave up their precious time at the weekend to photograph our giggling and wriggling darlings on whose behalf we have embarked on this campaign. We have published a selection of photos from the day below.
